PKP Intercity served 59 million passengers
Last year, almost 59 million passengers used the services of PKP Intercity, which is the best result in the carrier's history. Thus, the previous record from 2019, when PKP Intercity served 49 million passengers, was broken.
The highest turnout was recorded in August when over 6.5 million people traveled on Intercity trains. According to the carrier, the excellent results in 2022 were possible thanks to attractive offers and investment in the modernization of the rolling stock.
- For several years, we have been rebuilding the role of railways in Poland, and the past year has shown that we are on the right track to achieve our goal, which is to popularize train travel as much as possible. Record-breaking results are a source of pride for us and an expression of trust from travelers. However, we do not rest on our laurels and will roll up our sleeves for further hard work. We hope that in the coming years, we will significantly improve the result from 2022. Multi-billion rolling stock and infrastructural investments will help us in this. Thanks to them, the fashion for railways will become even more common - said Marek Chraniuk, President of the Management Board of PKP Intercity.
PKP Intercity plans to invest PLN 27 billion in rolling stock modernization by 2030 to offer twice as many trains with a high and uniform standard of travel. Intercity announced in November last year a tender, after which the carrier's rolling stock is to be expanded by 300 new wagons, with an option to purchase another 150.
- This is our most important tender in recent years, and its implementation will be a milestone towards implementing our investment strategy. The new quality will attract millions more travelers to our trains. Thanks to the new wagons, we will meet the expectations of various groups of passengers - cyclists, people with children, or those traveling alone. Thanks to such investments, we are sure that the railway will soon become the number one means of transport - adds Chraniuk.
