Significant Increase in air traffic in the first half of 2023

n the first half of 2023, air traffic in Poland experienced a remarkable increase, surpassing the figures from 2019, as confirmed by a report from the Civil Aviation Authority.

Polish airports served 23.2 million passengers, marking a 4% increase compared to the first half of 2019 and a 40% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Despite an 8% decrease in the number of flight operations compared to 2019, there was a 19% increase compared to the first half of 2022.

It's noteworthy that the majority of passengers were handled by the three main airports: Warsaw Chopin Airport, Kraków-Balice Airport, and Gdańsk Airport. The largest increases were recorded at Kraków-Balice, Katowice in Pyrzowice, and Gdańsk airports. Carriers such as Ryanair, PLL LOT, and Wizz Air also noted impressive growth, especially in comparison to 2019.

In the international transport sector, there was a 39.7% increase compared to 2022 and a 4.6% increase compared to 2019. The most passengers in this segment were transported by Ryanair, Wizz Air, and PLL LOT. In domestic transport, there was a 42.4% increase compared to 2022, and despite a slight decrease compared to 2019, the number of travelers increased.

In the cargo transport segment, there was a 9.6% increase compared to the first half of 2022 and a staggering 70% increase compared to 2019. A total of 97.4 thousand tons of air cargo were transported, showcasing an impressive result.

In summary, the aviation sector in Poland is experiencing dynamic growth, and the Civil Aviation Authority's report confirms the market's recovery after the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
