Train Journey to Estonia
From February 10, traveling to Estonia by train has become easier. The Vilnius – Riga connection has been extended to the Estonian station Valga, where passengers can conveniently transfer to a train heading to Tallinn.
Currently, the railway route to Estonia consists of several stages:
- Travel on the IC Hańcza train to Mockava station, where a guaranteed transfer to a train to Vilnius is provided.
- An overnight stay is required – travelers can stay in Vilnius or take a train to Kaunas, from where another train to Šiauliai is available, allowing for an overnight stay in that city.
- Travel on the Vilnius – Valga train. Departure from Vilnius is at 07:04, from Šiauliai at 09:15, arriving in Valga at 13:51.
Valga station is located in Estonia and serves a town divided between two countries – the Estonian Valga and the Latvian Valka. This unique geographical division makes it an interesting place to visit.
A train from Valga to Tallinn departs at 14:10, arriving in Estonia’s capital at 17:34. Along the way, it stops in Tartu (arrival at 15:07), one of the country’s most important cultural and academic centers. A ticket for the Valga – Tallinn route purchased online costs 21.34 EUR, while the Valga – Tartu journey costs 5.80 EUR. The ticket for the entire Vilnius – Tallinn route, available through the website, costs 39 EUR.
