PKP Intercity has confirmed the launch of a new international train service that will once again connect Łódź directly to Europe’s railway network. Starting in December 2025, a night train running from Chełm to Berlin will pass through the city. In the opposite direction, travelers returning from Germany will be able to conveniently continue their journey to Chełm, where a broad-gauge train bound for Kyiv will be waiting.
This marks the first year-round international connection through Łódź in nearly two decades. Until now, residents of Poland’s fourth-largest city had to transfer in Warsaw or Kutno to travel abroad. The new route aims to eliminate that inconvenience.
Departing from Chełm late in the evening, the train will stop in major cities including Warsaw, Łódź, Kalisz, and Poznań, arriving in Berlin early the next morning. On the return journey, the train is scheduled to reach Łódź in the early hours, offering flexible options for both international and domestic travel. The route will also help bridge the gap in service between Łódź and Lublin and provide the first direct rail connection to Chełm.
PKP Intercity has not yet disclosed the detailed timetable or the train’s composition. It remains unclear whether sleeping or couchette cars will be available. However, passengers will benefit from a planned transfer in Chełm to a Ukrainian Railways train heading to Kyiv. This will greatly simplify travel from Łódź to many Ukrainian cities, including Kovel.
