Pendolino to Seaside Resorts and PKP Intercity’s Ambitious Summer Plans
PKP Intercity has announced the launch of direct Pendolino connections to two popular Baltic Sea destinations—Międzyzdroje and Świnoujście. Starting in June, travelers will be able to board a high-speed train departing Warsaw at 4:00 p.m., reaching Międzyzdroje by 9:30 p.m. and Świnoujście just ten minutes later. The total journey will take only 5 hours and 40 minutes, making it a highly competitive alternative to driving, especially when obeying speed limits.
This is just one of many new additions for the upcoming summer season. PKP Intercity is preparing for what could be its busiest summer ever, increasing the number of trains to both seaside and mountain destinations. According to the operator, there will be 11 train pairs to Świnoujście, 16 to Kołobrzeg, six to Ustka, five to Łeba, and 12 to Zakopane. To the Tri-City area (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot), 106 trains will run daily, with up to 115 on weekends.
The railway company is experiencing strong growth. In the first quarter of 2025, PKP Intercity carried 18.4 million passengers—up 10% from the same period last year. Routes connecting major cities with popular destinations like Zakopane, Szczecin, and Toruń have seen the most significant increases in ridership. Encouraged by these results, the company is expanding its network even further.
Its plans reach well beyond Poland’s borders. Starting in December, the number of international connections will rise, particularly to Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Lithuania. Among the new services are a night train from Chełm to Berlin via Warsaw and Łódź, as well as routes to Leipzig from Przemyśl and Kraków.
Perhaps the most exciting development is the potential launch of a direct train from Poland to the Adriatic Sea. PKP Intercity is in talks with Austrian railways and aims to introduce a connection to Rijeka, Croatia. If successful, this would mark the first direct train route from Poland to the Adriatic coast.
