SAF available for all Eurowings flights
Sustainable Fuel for Eurowings Flights
Eurowings airlines will equip its aircraft with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on all routes. The carrier has introduced new reduction and compensation packages under the name PlanetBlu. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a significant component of the airline policies within the Lufthansa Group, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions. SAF is produced from biogenic residues such as used cooking oils and can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil fuels.
Fleet Modernization
As part of the airline's commitment to sustainable development, the next step is the modernization of the fleet and the replacement of old aircraft with newer and more fuel-efficient planes. Eurowings will expand its fleet with aircraft such as the Airbus A320/321neo, which consume up to 20% less fuel with correspondingly lower emissions. When flying from Düsseldorf to Mallorca, a fully loaded A321neo consumes only 1.9 liters per person per 100 kilometers. The carrier plans to introduce a total of 13 new A320/321neo aircraft by mid-2024.
