Lufthansa Group: Green fares on all European routes
More sustainable travels across Europe with the Lufthansa Group
Efforts are underway within the Lufthansa Group to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. In order to accomplish this objective carriers are undertaking a series of initiatives aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and other harmful substances. One of the key points of the sustainable strategy is the modernization of the fleet and replacing older aircraft with modern and more efficient ones. The Lufthansa Group also invests in sustainable aviation fuels. SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), produced from biodegradable sources such as used cooking oils, displaces fossil fuels used in aviation. Supporting Lufthansa's efforts is also modern technology. The application of the AeroShark coating, which is based on the hydrodynamic properties of shark skin, optimizes the aerodynamic parameters of the aircraft, resulting in a clear reduction in fuel consumption.
Green Fares: Economy Green and Business Green
On European routes, the Lufthansa Group offers two fare options: Economy Green and Business Green. Opting for a Green fare ensures 20% reduction in individual CO2 emissions through sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). Additionally, the remaining 80% of individual CO2 emissions are offset by an equivalent contribution to high-quality climate-protection projects. This comprehensive approach to reduction and offsetting is closely tied to the new fares, providing a convenient way to fly more sustainably.
