IGHP: Hotels Achieve Increasingly Better Results
The Polish Chamber of Commerce of the Hotel Industry (IGHP) has reported significant increases in hotel occupancy rates in May. According to the IGHP survey, 80% of hotels exceeded a 50% occupancy rate, marking a notable improvement compared to previous months. Resort hotels performed particularly well, but business hotels also maintained a positive trend. The rise in May occupancy continued the upward trend from April and was markedly better than the same period last year.
In May, only 2% of hotels had an occupancy rate below 30%, while 79% achieved over 50% occupancy, with 41% of these hotels exceeding 70%. Among business hotels, 73% exceeded 50% occupancy, and 42% reached above 70%. In the resort category, 85% of hotels had occupancy rates above 50%, with 29% surpassing 70%.
Year-over-year comparisons show that 55% of hotels improved their occupancy rates compared to May 2023. In business hotels, 48% saw an increase in occupancy, while 39% experienced a decline. Resort hotels also showed improvement, with 50% achieving better results than the previous year.
May also saw an acceleration in price increases. 71% of hotels raised prices compared to May 2023, with over half increasing prices by up to 10%. Only 29% of hotels maintained or lowered their prices from last year.
Forecasts for June indicate continued recovery, especially in resort hotels. 77% of these hotels already have occupancy rates above 50%, with over 35% filled beyond 70%. Among business hotels, 42% expect occupancy above 50%.
The long June weekend also proved successful. 71% of hotels had occupancy rates over 50%, with 59% exceeding 70%. In business hotels, 42% achieved occupancy over 50%, and 33% surpassed 70%. Resort hotels performed even better, with 82% having occupancy rates above 70%.
The IGHP survey, conducted from June 3-7, 2024, included 150 hotels across Poland. Most of these are small and medium-sized enterprises, with 86% having up to 150 rooms. The majority of the surveyed hotels are located in cities, and 20% belong to hotel chains.
The survey results confirm that the Polish hotel market is dynamically developing, with properties increasingly managing market challenges effectively.
