Record-Breaking Performance at Chopin Airport in June 2024
In June 2024, Chopin Airport in Warsaw handled over 2 million passengers in a single month for the first time in its 90-year history. June 28th was particularly notable, with nearly 75,000 passengers processed in one day.
In total, the airport handled 2,005,111 passengers in June, marking a 10.5% increase from the previous year and over 12% more compared to June 2019, pre-pandemic. In the first half of 2024, the airport processed 9,738,175 passengers, an increase of over 13% compared to the same period in 2019 and nearly 17% more than last year.
Most passengers traveled on traditional flights, although this number was about 250,000 lower than in 2019. The charter segment saw a significant increase, with 1,233,946 passengers, up 47% from 2019. Low-cost flights were also popular, with 2,463,110 passengers, representing a nearly 68% increase compared to the first half of 2019.
Adam Sanocki, a Board Member of PPL S.A., highlighted that handling over 2 million passengers in one month is a remarkable achievement, especially in the context of the airport’s 90th anniversary. He emphasized the importance of Chopin Airport and noted that such a large increase in passenger numbers reflects the hard work of the entire team and the trust of passengers and business partners. He added that this accomplishment commits them to further development, investments in modern infrastructure, and improving service quality.
In the first half of 2024, 6,387,924 passengers traveled within the Schengen area. London was the most popular destination, followed by Paris and Amsterdam. For charter flights, Antalya, Marsa Alam, and Hurghada were the top destinations.
In June 2024, the airport handled 9,771 tons of cargo, and since the beginning of the year, a total of 53,540 tons, an increase of nearly 3,500 tons compared to the record period in 2022.
