Global Windows System Outage Causes Chaos at Airports and Airlines
On Friday morning, a global outage of Microsoft's Windows operating systems caused significant disruptions at dozens of airports and airlines worldwide, forcing many to halt all operations. The websites of carriers such as Wizz Air and Ryanair also went down.
Major American carriers, including American Airlines, Delta, and United, announced the suspension of all flights. Airports and airlines in Australia, India, and Europe are also grappling with numerous issues. Airports in Amsterdam and Berlin have temporarily ceased operations, while Spanish and Swiss airports report significant delays and disruptions.
Even airports operating normally are experiencing delays due to airline system errors. Passengers, including those from Poland, face difficulties with online check-in due to the non-functional websites of Wizz Air and Ryanair. Airlines are advising travelers to arrive at airports three hours before their scheduled departure and to frequently check the status of their flights and updates from airlines and airports.
Polish airports and LOT airlines have not been affected by the outage so far, but other domestic businesses, such as the container terminal in Gdańsk, are reporting issues. The outage has also impacted banks, railways, supermarkets, and television stations globally.
The outage was caused by an error in the Falcon cybersecurity platform, which secures Windows systems. Although Microsoft is not directly responsible for the issue, the company is working tirelessly to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
