Autumn marked by Oktoberfest
To Munich for Oktoberfest
Late September and early October belong to the biggest harvest festival in Europe. Oktoberfest, as every year, takes place in the capital of Bavaria – Munich. This year’s event kicked off on September 21 and will run until October 6. As always, visitors can enjoy plenty of attractions.
The heart of the festival consists of huge beer tents, capable of accommodating up to a thousand people. During Oktoberfest, various types of beer are served, but visitors can also taste Bavarian delicacies such as pretzels, pork knuckles, and white sausages. Besides its obvious gastronomic appeal, Oktoberfest is deeply rooted in the region’s traditions. The festival is accompanied by a parade in traditional Bavarian costumes and folk music concerts. Most Oktoberfest guests attend dressed in traditional Bavarian attire – men in leather pants called Lederhosen, and women in dresses called Dirndl. The Oktoberfest grounds also offer attractions for families with children, including an amusement park with carousels, a Ferris wheel, and a rollercoaster.
Oktoberfest spirit on Lufthansa flights
In September, Lufthansa brings the spirit of Oktoberfest to the skies on selected intercontinental routes departing from Munich and Frankfurt. Passengers in all classes will be able to enjoy a special Oktoberfest menu, designed to capture the essence of Bavaria’s biggest festival. Additionally, exclusive amenity kits will be offered in First Class, Business Class, and Premium Economy. First and Business Class travelers will also have the chance to try traditional gingerbread hearts known as "Lebkuchenherzen." The famous "Trachtenflüge," featuring flight attendants dressed in traditional costumes, will also take place. This year’s flights are scheduled from Munich to Osaka and Johannesburg.
Typical Bavarian meals will also be available in Business Class on selected continental routes. Another highlight will be the onboard magazine "Avionic" in a special Wiesn edition, also offered in Business Class. Economy Class passengers on continental routes can look forward to Oktoberfest treats in the Onboard Delights program, which will include a pretzel and beer set.
