Wizz Air Boosts Warsaw Traffic by 60% and Launches New Flights to Italy

Wizz Air zwiększa przewozy w Warszawie o 60% i wprowadza nową trasę do Włoch

Wizz Air has announced ambitious plans for 2024, targeting 4.8 million passengers on routes to and from Warsaw, marking a 60% increase compared to pre-pandemic levels. According to József Váradi, the airline's CEO, the Warsaw base is currently one of the fastest-growing in Wizz Air's network, surpassing other European airports. Váradi emphasized that despite infrastructure and slot allocation constraints at the capital's airport, Warsaw remains a priority market for Wizz Air, with the airline actively seeking opportunities to expand its connections whenever additional slots become available.

As part of its ongoing expansion, Wizz Air announced a new route from Warsaw to Genoa, Italy, set to launch in May 2025. The flights will operate three times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. In addition, the airline plans to increase frequencies on popular routes, including Milan, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Malaga, and Tel Aviv. Váradi noted that Tel Aviv remains a volatile market due to the geopolitical situation, requiring flexibility in flight planning.

In June 2025, Wizz Air will add a thirteenth Airbus A321neo to its fleet based at Warsaw Chopin Airport, increasing operational capacity by an additional 50,000 seats annually. This expansion is expected to lead to job growth, both directly and indirectly, according to Váradi.

Currently, Wizz Air operates flights from five bases in Poland – Warsaw, Gdańsk, Katowice, Kraków, and Wrocław – serving 158 routes to 28 countries. The airline's fleet comprises 213 aircraft, and by 2025, its network from Poland will include 56 routes to 24 countries. Wizz Air remains a key player in the low-cost airline sector in Central and Eastern Europe, continually expanding its offerings and strengthening its presence in the Polish market.
