LOT and Air India Expand Code-Share Agreement

Polish Airlines LOT and Air India, two flagship carriers within the Star Alliance network, have announced an enhanced code-share partnership. Effective December 11, the agreement will include six new routes, offering travelers from Europe and India a wider range of connections and greater travel convenience. This development marks a significant step towards improving connectivity between two growing regions in the global aviation market.
New Routes Under the Agreement
As part of the expanded partnership, Air India codes will be added to two LOT-operated routes from Warsaw:
- Warsaw – Riga
- Warsaw – Vilnius
Conversely, LOT’s codes will appear on four Air India routes from Mumbai:
- Mumbai – Bangalore
- Mumbai – Goa-Dabolim
- Mumbai – Hyderabad
- Mumbai – Chennai
These changes aim to streamline travel options between Central and Eastern Europe and key cities in India.
Benefits for Passengers
Through the code-share arrangement, LOT and Air India passengers can book seamless journeys under a single ticket, simplifying the transfer process and baggage handling. This extended agreement also provides greater flexibility when planning trips between Europe and India.
Currently, LOT codes appear on numerous domestic Indian routes, such as Delhi to Bangalore, Goa, Chennai, and Varanasi, among others. Air India codes are similarly present on LOT routes from Warsaw to major Polish cities like Krakow, Wroclaw, and Gdansk, as well as to European hubs like Amsterdam, Zurich, and London Heathrow.
Strengthening Collaboration at a Key Time
The expanded partnership with Air India aligns with LOT’s long-term strategy to grow its international route network and increase its presence in rapidly developing regions. India, one of the fastest-growing aviation markets, plays a central role in this plan.
Additionally, Air India recently bolstered its position at Mumbai Airport by acquiring Vistara Airlines. This move has significantly expanded its route offerings, making the collaboration with LOT even more advantageous for travelers.
