Brussels Airlines Expands Its Network to Sub-Saharan Africa

Brussels Airlines Expands Its Offer of Flights to Sub-Saharan Africa in 2025

Brussels Airlines has announced its long-haul flight network for the summer of 2025. In the new year, the Belgian carrier plans to focus on increasing the number of connections to Sub-Saharan Africa. Brussels Airlines aims to operate as many as 56 weekly flights to this region, representing a 10% increase compared to the summer of 2024. An additional, eleventh long-haul aircraft will strengthen selected routes and provide greater seat availability. Brussels Airlines will also continue to offer flights to North America, including New York and Washington, D.C.

Expansion of the Network Thanks to New Aircraft

The addition of the eleventh long-haul aircraft in June 2025 will allow for increased flight frequencies on several routes. Connections to Nairobi in Kenya and Accra, the capital of Ghana, will see daily rotations. Banjul in Gambia, Freetown in Sierra Leone, and Conakry in Guinea will also gain additional flights. Routes to Dakar in Senegal and Abidjan in Ivory Coast will be served more frequently as direct flights instead of the current triangular connections.

Starting in March 2025, Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, will be served daily with direct flights. Until now, the Congolese city was connected to Brussels with five weekly non-stop flights and two weekly flights with a stopover in Luanda (Angola). Thanks to the new schedule, passengers traveling to Kinshasa will benefit from greater comfort, more sustainable solutions, and reduced risks of delays or other operational issues.

“Kinshasa is undoubtedly our flagship route. The history of aviation in Belgium began nearly 100 years ago with the ambition of connecting Kinshasa and Brussels by air. Launching daily direct flights shows our unwavering commitment to the Democratic Republic of Congo,” said Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Brussels Airlines.

Changes to Flights to Angola

To enable all flights to Kinshasa to operate non-stop, connections to Luanda will be consolidated within the Lufthansa Group. Lufthansa will operate three weekly direct flights from Frankfurt to Luanda, ensuring connectivity with Angola. The last Brussels Airlines flight to Angola’s capital will take place on March 25, 2025, and all passengers will be automatically rebooked on Lufthansa flights.

Fleet Expansion Plans

The long-haul network of Brussels Airlines also includes two destinations in the United States: New York (JFK) and Washington, D.C. (IAD). In the coming years, the airline plans to expand its long-haul fleet to 13 aircraft. By 2027, Brussels Airlines also intends to introduce a completely new cabin interior, featuring Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes, to enhance the travel experience for its passengers.

Brussels Airlines is consistently strengthening its position as a key carrier on long-haul routes, offering an extensive network and amenities that meet the growing expectations of travelers.
