24-Hour General Strike in Greece

On February 28, 2025, air traffic controllers in Greece will join the general strike, which will last for 24 hours. During this time, all commercial flights to and from Greece will be suspended. Exceptions will be made for flights carrying heads of state, military flights, and emergency aircraft.

Reasons for the Strike

The strike in Greece has been called by the ADEDY trade union, which represents public sector companies. The protest is in response to the railway tragedy in Tempi on February 28, 2023, where a passenger train traveling from Athens to Thessaloniki collided with a freight train. The accident resulted in 57 deaths and over 85 injuries.

The organizers of the strike are demanding a re-examination of the case due to numerous inconsistencies and newly emerging facts. Dissatisfied with the government's actions, Greeks had already taken to the streets of Athens in protest on January 26, 2025. This was one of the largest demonstrations in the country, gathering tens of thousands of people.
