ITA Airways officially joins the Lufthansa Group
ITA Airways Joins Lufthansa Group
ITA Airways has officially become a member of the Lufthansa Group. The Italian airline, with its hub at Rome-Fiumicino Airport, offers business and individual travelers new travel planning opportunities, greater flexibility, and a more extensive flight network.
Expanded Flight Network
The integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group means that ITA Airways passengers will gain access to Lufthansa’s hub airports, including Munich, Frankfurt, Zurich, and Brussels. Additionally, Lufthansa Group will gain its sixth hub—Rome-Fiumicino Airport. This five-star airport will become a key transfer point for business travelers flying to and from Italy and other destinations in Europe and worldwide.
Business Travel Benefits
Thanks to the collaboration between ITA Airways and Lufthansa Group, business travelers will enjoy unified service standards, loyalty programs, and booking systems. The integration will also allow passengers to book selected ITA Airways flights under Lufthansa Group’s marketing number and vice versa, making ticket management easier and increasing flight availability.
Loyalty Program Benefits
The integration process will also include a partnership between the Miles & More and Volare loyalty programs. This means that ITA Airways business travelers will be able to earn miles within Lufthansa Group’s loyalty program, leading to additional benefits such as access to business lounges, priority check-in, and extra baggage allowances. Furthermore, ITA Airways will switch its airline alliance membership from SkyTeam to Star Alliance.
History of ITA Airways
The airline ITA Airways was established in 2021 following the collapse of Alitalia. The carrier took over Alitalia’s extensive network, which included more than 70 domestic and international routes across North America and Asia. In February 2025, the Lufthansa Group confirmed the acquisition of a 41% stake in ITA Airways. Starting from March 30, 2025, more than 100 code-share flights between Lufthansa Group airlines and ITA Airways are planned.
Modern Fleet and Travel Comfort
ITA Airways is investing in modern aircraft, ensuring comfortable travel conditions on both short-haul and long-haul routes. The airline’s fleet consists primarily of state-of-the-art Airbus models, including the A220, A320neo, A321neo, A330neo, and A350, guaranteeing high standards of onboard service.
The inclusion of ITA Airways in the Lufthansa Group marks a significant step in the development of the group’s global flight network. Expanded route availability, a modern fleet, loyalty program integration, and optimized transfers at Lufthansa Group hubs will make the airlines’ offer more competitive and travel planning more efficient.
